In a retrospective review of the song, Dave Thompson of AllMusic described the song as "a deafening roar in the classic Slade mould" with a "distinctive lyric". They felt it was another "rollicking rock effort", "teaming with commercial appeal". American magazine Cash Box listed the single as one of their "picks of the week" during April 1973.
